More Colors of Yellowstone
Everywhere one goes there are wonderful colors in Yellowstone. I really need to spend more time in the park.
Way to Close to the Car
Traffic stopped in Yellowstone and this gent walked up to our car. We slowly drove away as cars cleared in front of us.
More Colors of Yellowstone
Yellowstone is color. Even the beautiful skies helped.
Chasing after the Females
This male Elk was getting his harem all rounded up. We stayed out of the way.
Aspens Beginning to Turn Colors
Our first day in Yellowstone we saw this narrow stand of Aspens turning colors. Hope to shoot more trees in full color on Sunday and Monday in the Tetons.
Update of Artist View
This variation is much less dramatic and more of what the eye saw.
Yellowstone Colors
This image was shot at the worst time of day - 12 noon. The light was really bad so I used HDR to open up the shadows and control the highlights. It is like having Photoshop's Highlights and Shadows feature on Steroids. The images was photographed at Artist Point which was recommended by my good friend and great photographer Gordon Bowie.
Canyon near the Buffalo Bill Dam outside of Cody, WY
This again was taken on the Canon G9 converted with the LifePixel enhanced color filter. 3 exposures -2, ), & +2. I continue to use my brown tone for a little color.
Bighorn Mountain Range
This was the first mountain pass we had to cross at 9000 ft. going to Cody, WY. This image was from three separate exposures all shot in IR and into Photomatix Pro.
Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota
Just a stop along the roadway in Spearfish Canyon. Infrared from a Canon G9 P&S.
Mt. Rushmore
Before & After. The color image is right out of the Camera and the Brown Toned image with a little Lightroom work. These images were shot in Infrared and 3 shot HDR right before Sunset with a white sky.
Badlands around 12 noon
Totally the wrong time to shoot photograpy with the high Noon light. To fix this light problem I shot 3 separate exposures -2, 0, & +2. Combined them and got this image which works for my use.
Firswt Picture of the Road Trip
Bridge crossing the Mississippi River between WI and MN.
EXTENDED COLOR WITH JPEGS
Top image is out of the camera. The blue sky image is with the blue and red channels reversed in Channel Miser and a little adjustment in Hue & Saturation. This is from the same JPEG.
Color Infrared
Color from a RAW image in Infrared.
Morning Fog at the Park
Using a G9 converted to Infrared, I shot this image and then did a split tone or Duotone conversion.
Extended Color IR filter in a 5D
I shot jpeg and RAW at the same time in a Canon 5D converted with in Extended IR filter by Lifepixel. These are right out of the camera. White Balance was set for custom and set from using green grass with a late afternoon sun. Exposure was done with Aperture preferred. The RAW image was lighter and will give a 16 bit file that is more editable. The jpeg had deeper colors.
Where is the "Sweet Spot" of your lens?
Photographer, Robert Lightfoot, asked me where was the sweet spot of my lens? I did not have an answer. Do you know that answer for each of your lens? This Zoom Lens is from 24-105 and I found with newspaper that using auto focus that the sweet spot of this lens was F9.0 Now have I ever used 9.0? NO. But I will now. Test your own lens (even your point and shoot cameras). When depth of field is not the issue, use the sweet spot for the sharpest images.
Always have a camera with YOU!
This image was captured at dusk with low light and a very short lens on a point & shoot camera. Lots of noise but I got the image. We are not always on a photo shoot. This was at a picnic in Morton Grove, IL and everyone was putting things in their cars. The deer was licking his chops after finishing off an apple.
A Country Lane
When visiting out in the country, look up. Here this beautiful cloud and the winding country lane seem to visually come together over the barn. This image was photographed in Northern Indiana.
Before Breakfast
These Hosta leaves will soon be gone. I hand held a G10 camera and shot 3 images in AEB. Combined them in Hydra and used Contrastmaster and Topaz Adjust. I liked the B&W effect better than the original green.
