The Hinge
I found this old hinge on a cript in Graceland Cemetery. The craftmanship is evident of both the design made by the famous Chicago Architect John Root and the skill of the blacksmith who forged the hinge in the late 1800's. It is amazing when you think of the hand tools and all the work to make this hinge for a single, one time memorial to an individual. The monochrome image shows off both the aging and the overall look of the original function of the hinge.
