Winter in Indiana
This was a panoramic image that was made by using Photomerge in Photoshop. The original was a infrared image that I turned into a duotone (black and colors). This produces a warmer effect than a neutral black and white.
Name that "Car"
This is a new car. What brand? One of the show cars from the "Chicago Auto Show".
Cave Point with an "Attitude"
Edges around any flat art works changes the look and feel of the art. I am trying various effects of new edges around some of my photos. This photo is the same as yesterday's image, but with a special edge added.
Winter at Cave Point
Door County, Wisconsin is a winter wonderland when the temperature stays below freezing. Cave Point County Park is a must see location. Each visit to the park finds new formations of ice and frozen formations.
Ready to Melt
My how the weather has changed from just a week ago. This ice photo is one of the many images that I have to enjoy the true visual look of Winter.
Bumps
One can see all kinds of little friends in the ice frozen over weeds and rocks. Take a look.
Mark On Ice
Sitting on Ice and holding on to a raised pier, Mark gets his image.
George's Ice
George Steward found this little patch of ice crystals on the Lake Michigan side of Door County. Later in the day George fell and broke a leg bone going after more interesting images. I am posting this image for his neat find.
In The Snow
I call this image "Shadows of Art". The shadows of an art sculpture makes an interesting set of patterns in the white snow. This was captured with an Infrared Camera.
How to get the "Best Shot"
This photographer knew that the best photograph would be from down on the ice.

Ice in Color
The right blue sky with ambient light on ice and we find more of the natural beauty of ice in Door County, WI. This image was photographed at the Weborg Fishing Dock in Gills Rock in February of 2007.
Wonderful World of Ice in Door County
Mark Southard leads a February Winter Workshop for 4 days in Door County, WI every other year. I had a great time this past weekend and shot some of the most exciting ice images that I have ever seen. The above image was taken in RAW color and converted into B&W.
Cana Island
Back blogging. This panoramic was the combination of 7 separate photos. More to come.
Steps of the Des Plaines Public Library
Public Places are always interesting. One must first ask permission to photograph inside any public place. Since I am giving a lecture workshop at the Library tonight, I thought that I would use one of the scenes to be used with the demo. This very functional and beautiful building is the pride of Des Plaines. I used a little shirt pocket camera so that folks would not think that one has to have the most expensive camera to do good photography. Tonight's presentation is how to "Make you Photos Snap, Crackle and Pop".
More Winter Photography on the Des Plaines River
I call these structures "Three brothers and one sister". By getting yesterdays afternoon backlight behind the Frazzled Ice structures, there is an iridescent glow that gives a total new diminision. I went back this morning and the sturctures were gone. As the temperature rises just a few degrees the Frazzled sturctures were swept away with the current.
Frazzled Ice on the Des Plaines River
This formation is from an ice bubble freezing and then breaking and then freezing again. Each time it grows. Yesterday it was less than a foot tall. I estimated that the frazzled tower had grown to 4 feet by 8:00 AM this morning. The actual temp. has to be below zero for this to happen.

The River Freezes
Water is still moving over the dam, but as tempatures drop below "0" more of the river freezes.
Colorful Friday, February 2
Who said that models should sit still.
A very interesting room full of moving pencils and brushes.
This sink has a colorful exit.
More Winter Photography on the Des Plaines River
The colder the weather, the better the ice formations. Probably 20 degrees below will make the Dam in the river an exciting place to photograph ice sculptures formed by the water coming over the dam. These platters of ice suspended above the river almost look like wings of a bird. This Dam is located in downtown Des Plaines near the railroad bridge.
