  Would you Believe?
I took a photograph of the twisted cables behind a computer. Then I put the image into Photoshop CS3 and ran a series of the Filter-Polar Coordinates. Then I cut the image into half and the above pattern resulted. A smooth image from a mess of cords and cables.
