In black & white or color, Winter ice forms when we have sub-freezing temperatures. No ice storms needed.
This engine has become a show piece for the local train enthusiast along the Oregon coast. It pulled a few passenger cars for a short ride on Labor Day 2009. You can see by the rusty tracks there is no longer service in this area.

From one shot I treated the photograph in two different ways. One a more painterly look and one a more old antique effect. Both the same barn and both from the same single click of the shutter.
This was a single image that was treated by Topaz Adjust plugin for Photoshop. I used details to emphasize the old house and fence. Following the Topaz treatment I used the regular PS workflow.
This boat and all the rigging was ready for another day and night out at sea. I was standing on the dock only 6 feet from the boat and my lens was not wide enough to cover the boat. I shot 5 separate images and made a vertical panoramic photo. They were stitched together in CS4.
This old steel train bridge over the Columbia River in Portland, OR looks better to me in B&W than in color. Taken at dusk, I shot 7 AEB photos and combined them in Photomatix Pro.
The steel structure of this old bridge in Portland, OR was busy with repetitive patterns. The glow of the steel was both sunset and rust. HDR from 7 images.
This was the old docks for "Cotton" exports dating back to the Civil War. The buildings were old and I added a little HDR to make the old effect the main thrust of the rendering. The outside of the building is very rough and maintained that way, but the inside is modern shops and restaurants.
This extremely high bridge permits large ocean going military and commercial vessels from the Pacific Ocean enter the Columbia River inner passage to Portland, OR. This photograph was a single exposure that was edited with both Photshop and 2 separate plug-ins - Topaz Adjust and Contrastmaster. Thus the HDR details with a single image.

Standing or sitting on the beach, I love the sound, smell and movement of the waves. I shot 7 images rapid fire with AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing) and then selected only six for use. Then used a slight tonemapping for extreme details in the water.
Watching the surf is a natural for anyone on any costal areas. This morning scene in the Cannon Beach, OR area is the major attraction.
I like the mystery of fog scenes. There is a softness that hides the harshness of the rough surf and large rocks with the mountains in the background. This was a HDR from 7 shots. Long exposures with camera on a tripod. There really was no color in the final HDR so I did a conversion to B&W in Photoshop.
35 shots - 7 images in each of 5 camera positions. HDR created in Photomatix Pro. Deonstration of HDR will take place at the Des Planes Camera Club on Monday, January 12, 2009, 7:00 PM.
This old Steam Engine has been left to the ravages of time and weather. Parts are falling off and the engine is no longer fired up for use. I over pushed the colors in HDR to get a little more excitement into the image.
Having first shot the canyon in B&W in 1994, In 2007 I photographed in color and wish that I had shot in HDR. Guess I need to make another trip.
I keep doing a little refinement to this beautiful roadside lily.
